Sky Warriors: The P-3 Orion
Jun 29th, 2010 by admin
Originaly designed as a land-based, long-range anti-submarine warfare petrol aircraft, the P-3’s mission evolved in the late 1990’s and early 21st centure to include surveillance of the battle space, either at sea or over land. It can view the battle space and instantly provide information to ground troops, especially the United States Marines. The P-3C has advanced submarine detection sensors such as directional frequency and ranging sonobuoys and magnetic anomaly detection equipment. The avionics system is integrated by a general purpose digital computer that supports all of the tactical displays, monitors and automatically launches ordnance and provides flight information to the pilots. The P-3C can carry a mixed payload of weapons internally and on wing pylons.
Server issues? The presentation is very choppy. All other videos are smooth (not my isp). VERY exciting to watch my old squadron in action (VP-8) I was there for the 1987 split deployment – Bermuda/Lajes. Keep em flying, Tigers!
They are left in the water. Tons of them at the bottom of the med.
@m0smetana Hi, does the Navy pick up those sonobuoys after use or just simply leave in the water?
cheers
bravo zulu! VP-90 89-93
Very cool. I spent 4 years as an AW in VP-48. End of the Viet Nam Era and Cold War Games. Lots of Fun
@juxong
I was in VP-48 from ‘72-’76. I understand the squadron was disestablished in ‘91
hey do u know where vp-48 went to my dad was assign to there squadren
VP-19 here Moffett Fld CA 1974-1977. Thanks for posting, I think I ended up with 2400 hours. If I remember right we loaded 48 sonobuoy’s on the later Charlie birds.
VP-24, Ended The Cold War!
Batmen Forever!
Very Nice. . . thanks to whomever put this on. . . so many years inside one of these VP-47, Moffett Field, CA. . . late 70’s. . .
VQ-1 1974-1977, VQ-2 1978-1981
which VQ squadron? I was in VQ-2 in Rota at first then we moved to whidbey.
My entire career in the Navy on P-3s in VP and VQ. Sure was fun.
Such beautiful airplanes. I think it’ll be a shame to see the P-8s replace them. But at least we’ll have more P-3s serving in aerial firefighting.
My son is in VP-30 right now in Jax. He is an AW. Can’t wait for the P-8. GO NAVY! HOOYAH!
cant wait for the P-8s
i also like the addition of the CP-140 Aurora at 0:22. I am a tech on these birds.
excellent video, but at 4:17, i am pretty sure that killstores are not launched from the SLTs. The editing must have been for dramatic effect.
lmao wow update 3 p3’s im in c school now and we have an update 3 trainer like everything except the asq-212 is old school lmao crt screens and shit lmao aligning those things is a bitch dude
grew up in Bermuda and seeing Orions flying around was an hourly occurrence. Used to take them for granted but now they’re gone we kind of miss them!
Thats a nice video. It brings back a lot of memories.
I’m sorry I really don’t know. I wish I could help you but I simply can’t.
I want to fly this someday. . .
Great aircraft and great video!!!!
